Ask These 3 Questions Before Hiring A Realtor

Do you know what to ask?

Whether you’re about to buy or sell your first piece of real estate, or you’re a seasoned real estate investor, working with a best-fit agent is key to getting satisfying results from real estate transactions. As you speak with potential real estate agents, ask them the following 3 questions to help you decide who makes the cut…

What is your average client count at a given time?

This helps you get a read on whether the agent will have time to devote to you. If an agent has a very low average client count, it could signal issues. Ideally, you want an agent that stays busy but not overwhelmed.

Why do you work in the real estate industry?

This may not seem an obvious question, but think about it. Do you want an agent who is unclear about why they do what they do, or do you want an agent who is passionate about helping people? If the agent hesitates when asked this question, make a mental note of that. Look for answers that communicate passion, genuine caring and enthusiasm.

Do you focus on a specific type of real estate?

If you’re looking to invest, it might be smart to work with a realtor who has experience in that niche. Likewise, with probate real estate, or other areas of the trade. If an agent has some experience with both buyers and sellers, but focuses on one or the other, that can spell a winning balance for you. It means the agent specializes but has first-first-had knowledge on both sides of the real estate fence.

Talk with several potential agents and don’t be afraid to ask questions and make notes. This is an interview and you have a right to hire the person you feel most comfortable with, for this important job. Give yourself a few days to think it over and make a sound decision. If your gut tells you something, pay attention and make a choice that feels right.
